RCPA Masking Policy (UPDATED)

Masking Policy: Update April 24th, 2023

In accordance with changing mask rules in other high-risk areas, Randolph College for the Performing Arts is suspending mandatory masking in public spaces (hallways, washrooms, etc.)

We support instructors in requesting that students mask for their classes and will continue to provide masks at the front office.

Any community members who are not feeling 100% well are encouraged to wear a mask.

At this time all College public presentations will continue to strongly advise masking of audience members for the health and safety of our students.

Masking Policy: Update June 29th, 2022

Ontario has lifted the mandatory mask mandate as of June 11th in most high-risk settings, though private businesses are still allowed to enforce or maintain mandates as they see fit. We are updating our mask mandate to allow both students and faculty to remove masks in class for instructional purposes.

In order to support our faculty in making the choice that is best for their class, the administration will maintain mandatory masking in public spaces (hallways, washrooms, etc.). We know that some in our community have high-risk family members or are high-risk themselves, and we want to maintain a safe working environment for all members of our community.

While students and faculty may remove masks in class for instructional purposes, we strongly encourage everyone to continue masking in the classroom when possible.

As with the previous expansion of the mask mandate, the following rules still apply, with updates marked in bold:

  • Mask removal is optional, if instructors prefer for students to remain masked in their class, please respect this request.

  • Students cannot be required to remove masks.

  • Students who are observing should be encouraged to remain masked.

  • For rehearsal purposes, masks are encouraged.

  • Students who are not feeling 100% well should remain masked.

  • When unmasked and presenting students should be encouraged to remain distant from one another.

We are also eliminating the active daily screening and moving to a self-screening model. Please continue to take note of any symptoms you may be experiencing before coming to the building.

  • Students should put their masks back on after presenting in order to receive notes (unless you are quickly going into a redirect).

  • Students who are not feeling 100% well should remain masked.

  • Students must remain masked in chorale and musicianship classes for any group singing activities.
